Road User Support Service

Posted on: Friday 12 December 2008

Have you ever been involved in or affected by a road traffic accident?

Every year, around 3,500 people are killed on Britain's roads and 40,000 are seriously injured.

In total, there are over 300,000 casualties. Even a minor knock can deeply affect those involved and major crashes can cause people concerns about using the road again. If you were merely a witness and not directly involved, you may still be suffering from a series of emotions triggered by this life-changing event, which can impact on your work, family and general daily life.

You are not alone. Many people who survive road traffic incidents develop some form of stress reaction, whether it is worries about travelling or fear for their own safety. Every experience is unique and an initial one-hour assessment session with a qualified counsellor gives you the opportunity to talk about your particular incident and detail any lasting symptoms you may be suffering as a result. You will be given appropriate coping strategies, information and advice to get you through this stressful and emotional time.

RUSS was set up in 1998 and receives referrals from professional organisations including the Police, Victim Support, Devon Air Ambulance, solicitors, psychiatrists, psychologists and medical practices
